Six years ago, we put a bright idea in motion: to build the world’s first solar electric car.
Creating an ultra-efficient, long-range solar electric car had never been done (until now). Many called us dreamers, idealists. And that’s ok. Because all of history’s pioneers and visionaries began with their heads in the clouds. How else can we forge change, if we don’t dare to dream?
At Lightyear, we believe in being bold. Thousands of breakthroughs and just as many knocks and scrapes have brought us here, to a pinnacle of innovation. We’re ready to unveil our production-ready solar car.
Will you be there, as we show the world just how far clean solar kilometres can take us?
Countdown to 0 — The global premiere of our first production-ready solar car
Location: Online / Livestream
Date: 9 June 2022
Time: 20:00 Central European Summer Time (CEST)
Watch the online premiere
You could be one of the first people to see our solar electric car; the beginning of a clean, automotive revolution.
Now, with pictures of our car just about everywhere, you might be wondering (and rightly so) what we’re about to reveal. The car you see in our imagery and videos is a prototype, whereas the car we’ll soon be unveiling is our final design. Essentially, the vehicle that will go into production, hitting roads across Europe later this year.
Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming online premiere:
Discover our final design
The gentle curves and organic shapes aren’t just for show. An aerodynamic design is essential for energy efficiency; so the car can slip through air like silk. In fact, its design will make it the most aerodynamic five-seater on the market. But listen, there are plenty more design features - like a 100% vegan interior - that might just surprise you.
Learn specs and capabilities
Curious to learn how far a solar electric car can take you? We’ll be sharing the car’s solar yield, range and smart charging capabilities. Plus, much more.
