Martijn van Rensch of Deloitte: “The importance of sustainability and new forms of mobility is indisputable. We believe in the mission of Lightyear, and we are happy to contribute to it by actively seeking out and developing new forms of mobility, such as car-sharing and by collaborating to solve future challenges.“

Deloitte buys 1 million sustainable car kilometres from the Dutch car manufacturer, Lightyear as part of their lease fleet.

Rotterdam, 19 September 2019 - The new Dutch car brand, Lightyear and Deloitte (Netherlands) have entered into a partnership to make the future of mobility more sustainable. A part of this collaboration consists of leasing Lightyear One’s through lease partner LeasePlan Netherlands.

Deloitte and Lightyear have been working together for some time, with the collaboration focussing on the creation of a future-proof organisational structure for Lightyear and building an ecosystem of innovative partners, such as the partnership with LeasePlan Netherlands. Through the reservation of one million sustainable kilometres, Deloitte underlines their confidence in Lightyear’s technology and invests in both the future of mobility and energy.

Lightyear, which was started by a Dutch solar car world championship-winning team, has developed the most energy-efficient electric car with Lightyear One. Lightyear One does not require to charge as often, has a range of 725km (WLTP) and offers a solution to the challenge of the increasing pressure on the non-renewable energy charging grid. The roof and hood are made up out of a 5m2 solar roof with fully integrated solar cells that generates energy to drive.

Lex Hoefsloot, Lightyear: “Our mission is to drive a lightyear’s light year’s worth of solar kilometres on sustainable energy by 2035. By choosing to partner with Lightyear, Deloitte makes it clear that they are putting action to their words. We hope that other organisations will follow the example of Deloitte and LeasePlan because Dutch innovation needs the participation of the corporate world to come up with successful and practical solutions for everyone."

Erik Henstra, Managing Director LeasePlan Netherlands: “Deloitte is a valued client and with the collaboration between Lightyear and Deloitte we prove that LeasePlan makes future solutions for sustainable mobility possible. An electric car that charges itself will have a great impact.”

The Lightyear One vehicles are expected to be delivered to Deloitte mid-2021.
