MyWheels adds solar electric vehicles to fleet, with Lightyear One available as soon as 2023

2 min reading time

Keen to experience an ultra-efficient solar electric vehicle for yourself? We have exciting news for everyone itching to get behind the wheel of a Lightyear car.

We’re pleased to announce that Lightyear One will be part of the MyWheels fleet in 2023, with 5,000 Lightyear Two cars added in 2025. For you, that means the chance to drive the world’s first long-range solar electric car as soon as next year.

First, it was LeasePlan to put solar electric cars in their fleet. Now, it's MyWheels, the Dutch market leader in car-sharing. Its customers will be some of the first in the world to drive in clean solar kilometres.

A mission everyone can drive

While we’ll produce an exclusive number of our statement car, Lightyear One, our mission is far from exclusive: clean mobility for everyone, everywhere.

We’ll measure our mission’s success in kilometres, 9.460.000.000.000, to be exact. It’s our goal to have the world drive one light-year on solar power by 2035. That’s no small feat.

To achieve it, we need you – the visionaries ready to put clean solar mobility on the road. Through services like MyWheels, you can contribute to a bright future with every trip, adventure and ride you take. And that’s only the beginning.

We continue to work closely with pioneer partners, keen to spotlight a bright future of mobility by adding solar electric vehicles (SEVs) to their fleets.

A car for curious minds

We designed our car for curious minds, adventurers and explorers.

Lightyear One is the world's first long-range SEV. You might be familiar with its capability of harnessing the sun’s power, but did you know that it's built for more than smooth roads and predictable surfaces?

Lightyear One has All Wheel Drive (AWD), courtesy of four independently-controlled in-wheel motors that deliver improved traction control on all types of surfaces. We added ground clearance of 183mm to the mix, ensuring that Lightyear One goes on where other electric vehicles must stop.

Its trunk space can also rival most mid-size SUVs. That leaves ample room to pack camping gear and head off the beaten track for a night under the stars. Solar-powered road trip, anyone?

A future we can get excited to share

MyWheels are a great example of how the market is evolving to find innovative ways to reduce emissions and create more space on the roads. We’re proud to partner with them.
