Trailblazing technologies — Lightyear partners with megacar manufacturer, Koenigsegg

We’re excited to share that we have partnered with megacar manufacturer, Koenigsegg! The investment and partnership is designed to bring automotive technologies to new heights, sharing knowledge and resources to jointly develop cutting-edge innovations.

Known for ultimate performance megacars, Koenigsegg’s no-compromise philosophy has led to patented innovations like its ”rocket” catalytic converter, the supercharger response system, and a variable geometry turbo system.

The company also has a long history of developing sustainable mobility tech, and will help to advance technologies in our second and mass-market model, Lightyear 2.

Lightyear CEO and Co-Founder, Lex Hoefsloot, said: “Koenigsegg is top of the food chain in the field of high-performance sports cars. I've always admired their blend of incredible performance, design, and sustainable technology - this partnership shows we are clearly on the right track.”

"I’m incredibly excited to be able to tap into decades of experience in designing and building aspirational cars, and look forward to working closely with Christian and his team to drive real change in the industry together."

The bright collaboration follows the launch of Lightyear 0, the world’s first production-ready solar electric car. You can recap its premiere, and the moment we made automotive history, here.

Lightyear 0 is designed like no other car — not just because of its integrated solar cells, but its radical focus on efficiency. We designed for maximum range and efficiency where it matters most, everyday life.

The first of its kind, Lightyear 0 will pave the way for an ambitious mission, stretching as far as every corner of the earth. Clean mobility for everyone, everywhere.

Christian Koenigsegg, CEO and Founder of Koenigsegg, said: "The automotive industry is going through a massive transition to sustainable fuel and technology. Lex and his team have developed transformative technologies, and this partnership with Lightyear will ensure our products remain on the bleeding edge, which is great news for our customers."

As a company with alternative thinking in its DNA, we're constantly excited by innovation and transformative strategy. It's in that same vein that we welcome dynamic partnerships that further our mission. As we near production, we're thrilled to continue joining forces with pioneering companies, like MyWheels and Leaseplan, that see the same expansive and clean future for mobility.
