Lightyear welcomes Dutch multinational SHV as partner and investor

We are proud to announce a collaboration with the Dutch multinational SHV, supported by a strategic €20 million investment, as part of our current investment round. Throughout its 125 years of history, the family-owned company SHV has always been guided by a visionary, innovative, and entrepreneurial spirit. SHV recognises that we are at the forefront of a historical market transformation, which happens only a few times per century. By ensuring a faster transition from combustion-powered vehicles to electric transport, the collaboration will strengthen both companies’ contribution to energy transition and create a positive impact in serving global zero-carbon climate goals.

Jeroen Drost, CEO of SHV: "We are very excited about this strategic partnership. It aligns with our view on creating a sustainable future and it is a perfect fit with our purpose - “Courage to care for generations to come”. We see several opportunities for cooperation and exchanging technical knowledge between Lightyear and a number of the businesses that are part of the SHV family.”

Lex Hoefsloot, CEO of Lightyear: “We greatly value and share the vision of SHV. Their entrepreneurial spirit, long-term focus, knowledge of different industries, and global mindset are of great value to Lightyear’s mission, to provide “Clean mobility for everyone, everywhere”. We are now more ready than ever to get our first cars on the market and to demonstrate our technology.”

About Lightyear

Lightyear is on a mission to make clean mobility available to everyone, everywhere. Lightyear develops electric cars with an energy-efficient design and integrated solar cells. This allows motorists, depending on the climate, to drive up to twenty thousand kilometres per year on the power of the sun. The fast-growing company was founded in 2016 and currently employs more than one hundred twenty employees. The team is made up out of a mix of young talent and experience from the automotive industry, including former employees of Tesla, Audi and Ferrari. In 2019, Lightyear recently received the Horizon 2020 grant from the European Commission under grant agreement number 848620. In the summer of 2019, Lightyear launched its first driving prototype, Lightyear One, and opened a new office. The prestigious TIME Magazine acknowledged Lightyear One as one of the ‘100 best inventions’ of 2019. The first model is expected to be delivered in 2021 in an exclusive series of 946 pieces.
