Lightyear at PVinMotion 2026: Advancing Vehicle-Integrated Solar

2 min reading time
PVinMotion Madrid 2026

Lightyear will join PVinMotion 2026 in Madrid as a Gold Sponsor, bringing its expertise in vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (VIPV) and solar mobility to an event connecting the photovoltaic and automotive industries. For Lightyear, the event is an opportunity to share experience from real-world projects, connect with industry partners and showcase how vehicle-integrated solar technology can contribute to the future of electric mobility.

Connecting photovoltaics and automotive innovation

PVinMotion brings together experts from across the photovoltaic and automotive sectors to address some of the practical challenges involved in bringing solar technology into vehicles. The 2026 programme covers topics including PV integration on vehicle closures, standardisation and safety, yield prediction and performance modelling, monitoring and power conversion, and the economic potential of VIPV.

These topics reflect an important stage in the development of vehicle-integrated photovoltaics. For the technology to become a viable part of future vehicles, its performance needs to be understood in real-world conditions and its integration considered alongside the requirements of the automotive industry.

For Lightyear, this means developing vehicle-integrated solar solutions that combine photovoltaic technology, power electronics and intelligent energy management, while addressing the practical requirements of automotive applications.

The exchange between photovoltaic and automotive experts is therefore important to understand not only what solar technology can generate, but how it can be integrated, measured and developed for real vehicles.

Showcasing vehicle-integrated solar on the Nissan Ariya

A key part of Lightyear’s presence at PVinMotion will be the Nissan Ariya demonstrator, developed in collaboration with Nissan.

The demonstrator features 3.8 m² of Lightyear solar technology integrated across the hood, roof and tailgate. Under clear, sunny conditions, the system can generate up to 23 km of additional driving range per day.

Bringing the vehicle to PVinMotion gives visitors the opportunity to see vehicle-integrated photovoltaics in a real automotive application and explore how solar technology can become part of the vehicle itself.
