After focusing on Lightyear One's design and record-breaking aerodynamics in 2019, we are currently further developing our core technologies. On this page we will keep you informed of our progress towards the next Research Vehicles.
Lightyear One was first revealed to the world in 2019. The prototype we presented that summer was mainly developed to test the vehicle’s design and record-breaking aerodynamic performance. Since then we have focussed on the further development of our core technologies such as the powertrain, the thermal management system and our signature solar technology.
Fast-forward to September 2020. We entered a new and exciting phase as we started building our next two Research Vehicles, which are an important milestone on our way to reach our first deliveries at the end of 2021. The ‘Validation Prototype’, will be the first vehicle in which all of our in-house developed components are coming together to deliver unprecedented performance. We will finally demonstrate the convenience and user benefits offered by Lightyear One, in real life. In this slideshow you get a behind the scenes look into the build of this record-breaking prototype.
About Lightyear’s technology
As our world moves to more sustainable energy sources, Lightyear is driving the development of clean mobility in the automotive industry. By enabling electric vehicles to be scalable for everyone, everywhere, we will accelerate the sustainability transition and have a positive impact.
Our technology is engineered to enable a clean future. Starting from scratch and using a holistic design approach we developed an ultra energy-efficient long-range solar car.
