Working at Lightyear is a unique experience. You get the opportunity to work for a company with a pure and meaningful mission. A mission that will make a positive and lasting impact on future generations.
What will you do as a System Architect (Power) Electronics
As a System Architect Power Electronics, you will become part of the engineering team at Lightyear, In this role you will help grow the electronics department and lead the power electronics development within the company. You will work closely together with the Software, Test & Simulations, Applications, and Commercial/Sales teams to balance both current market demands and shape the roadmap for further development and products.
You are responsible for all electronics development, which includes mainly power converters, but also telematics and control devices. Your goal is to architect and develop the electronics system in such a way as to maximize the performance (cost/efficiency) of the overall solar system and ensure modularity for different vehicle platforms and solar panel sizes.
You will lead the development of all electronics, in particular the maximum power point tracking power converters
Maintain the roadmap for electronics development
Build and lead electronics development team from scratch
Architect the conversion and control systems, based on your vision, market trends and input from the application and sales teams
Architect the new cutting edge power converters (multi-level, GaN based), including conversion efficiency modeling, key component selection etc.
Arrange and review the detailed design of the electronic components
A day as a System Architect (Power) Electronics
After the standup with the team in the morning you start with some simulations for the new multiport converter concept, to prepare for the brainstorm session you have organized in the afternoon to discuss modularity for varying panel sizes and integration with different OEM platforms. You will round out the morning with a some interviews for new candidates on your team, a conversation with the sales and commercial teams, or engage in a strategy session with the managment.
After having lunch with the team you still have some time left to review the PCB design for the Telematics Control Unit that you commissioned at a supplier. The brainstorm gives some interesting new ideas, so you spend the rest of your time to write an invention disclosure and doing some calculations to check if the concept will work.
